2010 Assignments for Honors Night
| Honors Night | Assignment | Description | Taken After |
| Jan 12, 2010 | Teamwork | A photo showing teamwork in progress. Webster’s definition of teamwork = “work done by several associates with each doing a part but all subordinating personal prominence to the efficiency of the whole”. Make sure the photo illustrates the team working (acting together) and not just the results of the teamwork. |

| Feb 09, 2010 | Surreal Composite | Think of the works of Jerry Ulesmann or those of our own Peter Janecke! Create a composite photograph from two or more separate photos and seamlessly combine them into one new creation. Make sure and keep it surreal. Webster’s definition of surreal = “marked by the intense irrational reality of a dream.” If your creation ends up looking real then you missed the boat; it must be obvious in the final photo that the scene presented could not possibly be real. |

| Mar 09, 2010 | Get Rhythm | Webster’s definition of rhythm = “1 a: an ordered recurrent alternation of strong and weak elements in the flow of sound and silence in speech.” Of course here we are not concerned with sound or speech but rather visual elements like pickets on a fence or rows of corn in a field. |

| Apr 13, 2010 | Less is More | Minimalism in a simplistic way, hence the name 'Less is More'; the photo should be broken down to the plain and simple, subject should be identifiable, but should seem detached because of the sparseness of the shot. |

| May 11, 2010 | Low Key | Opposite of our 2008 “High Key” assignment, “Low Key” shots are heavily weighted toward the left (black) side of the histogram. For purposes of this assignment think of a photo of a black cat at night. Your lighting will have to be controlled to allow for some highlights and contrast but with very little, if any, shadow detail. Try to stay away from a marginal shot with 51 percent of its pixels on the left hand side of the histogram and see how far you can get to the left (60%, 70%, more?). |

| June 08, 2010 | Humorous | Take a photo you think will tickle the judges’ collective funny bones! The bigger the laugh the higher your score! |
March 01, 2010 |
| July 13, 2010 | Opposites | A photo of two main subjects illustrating opposites. Big and small, hot and cold, rich and poor, sad and happy; pick your pair but make sure the “opposites” are easily identifiable. |

| Aug 10, 2010 | Monochrome (but not Black and White) |
Any photo converted to B&W and then tinted to Sepia, Cyan, or any other desired hue. The best photos here will use the chosen tinting to enhance the story or mood of the photo. We don’t want to see B&W photos this month so make sure you get far away enough from B&W so that your toning is obvious. |

| Sep 14, 2010 | Food | Plate it up and serve it but stop to take a photo before you eat it! Weather it is a burger or caviar your photo should make it look delicious! |

| Oct 12, 2010 | Birds of a Feather |
Birds: We see lots of terrific bird photographs presented in the Open category on Honors night. Now its time to honor this popular topic with an Honors Assignment. Hopefully the assignment will inspire our members who don’t normally pursue photographing our feathery friends to try their hand in a new area. |

| Nov 09, 2010 | The Color Blue | Simply any photo with the color blue figuring prominently in the composition. We’re not looking for the mood “blue” here; We’re looking for the actual color blue. A B&W entry would indicate you need help understanding instructions! ☺ |

| Dec 14, 2010 | Field Trip | Any photo taken while participating in any official Bay Area Photo Club sponsored field trip during 2010. |
