April 28

On Tuesday April 28, 2009 member Peter Janecke will present a program titled 'Composites-Concept to Print'.  There will be snacks and soft drinks provided.  The meeting is held at TAACCL and opens at 7:00pm.

In late December or early January, I sent out a call for tutorial and program ideas for 2009.  One idea that stood out was composites.  Barry Armer was very interested in having someone present a program on them.  He didn't just want to know how to accomplish this in Photoshop.  He wanted to know how to conceptualize a composite and then how to choose, or take, the appropriate images to put it together.

Barry's first thought went straight to Peter Janecke.  Peter has presented some very interesting composites in the past.  He has more experience with them than anyone I know in the club.

With that knowledge I contacted Peter, who while still dealing with damage caused by Hurricane Ike, graciously agreed to present the program for us.  Please come out and join us for this very interesting topic.

Composites Follow-up

Peter Janecke did a great job presenting his program on Composites Tuesday night.  If you didn't attend you missed a really nice presentation.

For those of you interested in looking over the slides Peter used for his Composites presentation, go to the Downloads link on the home page.  Peter has provided everything he went over except the demo he performed in Photoshop.  It will require Microsoft Office 2007 or the free PowerPoint Viewer 2007

Instructions for Firefox:

If you have Microsoft Office 2003 I believe it will prompt you to download the 2007 viewer when you attempt to open it.  At least it worked that way on my Office 2003.  If you have an older version of Office I suggest you go ahead and download the PowerPoint Viewer 2007 in the link above.

Instructions for Internet Explorer: (Thanks to Kelly McDonald for noting the problem and coming up with a solution)

You still need the PowerPoint Viewer 2007 but, it will not open because IE sees it as a compressed file.  When it gives you the option to open, save or unzip, choose save and place it in a folder where you can find it.  Navigate to the folder, right click on the file and rename the .zip extension to .pptx.  You should then be able to open it with the viewer.

I also want to take the opportunity to thank Peter for taking the time to develop such an easy to follow presentation for the club.
